Planetary Solutions
Symposium
Today, the built environment—from the way we construct and operate buildings to how we eventually dispose of them—accounts for nearly half of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, more than half of global solid waste, and close to three-quarters of total energy use. These staggering numbers only hint at the deeper systemic challenges we face. As we near what scientists call a "climate tipping point," the question becomes urgent: How can architects, designers, and builders not only reduce harm but actively contribute to ecological repair?
Over the course of the three-day symposium led by GOA's Alan Organschi, experts from climate science, ecology, construction, design, engineering, finance, and policy were brought together to explore regenerative approaches in building—examining materials, methods, and the transformative potential for a sustainable future in the built environment.
